He was baptized in June the same year. Following high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserves, serving nine years in the infantry as a machine gunner and mortarman. Deacon Ben was honorably discharged as a sergeant. While in the Marine Corps. Reserve he began his 24-year career in Law Enforcement, which ended abruptly following a heart attack and emergency by-pass surgery in March 2014. Prior to retiring, Deacon Ben had begun studying for Holy Orders and was serving as an acolyte and a licensed Lay Reader. He had also become the Junior Warden and Sexton of St. Luke’s. In July of 2019, he was made a deacon by Bishops Ashman and Hansen. He currently lives in the Redding area with his two school age children, his oldest having just moved out.
